What the award is
The Pravasi Rajasthani Samman is conferred by the Government of Rajasthan, through the Rajasthan Foundation, on members of the global Rajasthani diaspora who have made distinguished contributions in their adopted countries — and to Rajasthan, India, and the global Rajasthani community.
Categories typically span: business and entrepreneurship, social and humanitarian work, science and academia, arts and culture, public service, sports, journalism and media, and exceptional contribution to the Rajasthani diaspora itself. The exact categories vary year to year.
The Samman is presented at the annual Pravasi Rajasthani Divas — the official gathering of the global Rajasthani diaspora hosted by the Government of Rajasthan in Jaipur, typically in early December.
Who is eligible
- Of Rajasthani origin — born in Rajasthan, with parental or ancestral roots in Rajasthan, or formally identified with the Rajasthani diaspora
- Living abroad for a substantial period (typically — though check the current year's criteria)
- Distinguished contribution in a recognised field, with verifiable record
- Connection to community / Rajasthan — preference is given to nominees who have actively contributed to the Rajasthani community or to Rajasthan itself, beyond their professional achievement
How to put together a strong nomination
1. The biographical brief
Full name, date of birth, current country of residence, place of origin in Rajasthan (district / town), profession, current organisation. Keep this factual and tight — half a page maximum.
2. The citation (500–1000 words)
This is the heart of the nomination. Make a clear, specific case for distinguished contribution — not a generic CV. The strongest citations are organised around three sections:
- Professional / institutional achievement — what specifically the nominee has built, led, or accomplished. Quantify where possible.
- Service to community / Rajasthan — concrete actions: founding associations, mentoring, philanthropy in Rajasthan, public advocacy. This section often decides the nomination.
- Why this person, why this year — what makes the nominee a fitting recognition for this Samman cycle. Tie to recent milestones if any.
3. Supporting documents
- Detailed CV / résumé
- 3–5 pieces of supporting press coverage (mainstream or community)
- 2–3 testimonials / endorsements from credible figures (community presidents, business peers, public officials)
- Certificates of major awards already received
- Photographic record where relevant (events organised, recognition received, projects led)
- Proof of Rajasthani origin (if not self-evident)
Common reasons nominations don't succeed
- Generic citations that read like a LinkedIn profile rather than making a specific case
- Light on community contribution — professional achievement alone is rarely enough; the Samman privileges service to Rajasthan and the diaspora
- Weak supporting documents — testimonials from family members or junior colleagues count for less than from peer leaders
- Late submission — the nomination window typically closes weeks before the December event; missed deadlines mean waiting a year
- Self-nomination without third-party endorsement — much stronger to be nominated by a community body, with the nominee's quiet awareness

Past honourees the GARC community has celebrated
GARC's own annual Sewa Awards have honoured distinguished diaspora figures — including Shriji Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar (77th Custodian, House of Mewar), Dr Jaivir Singh Rathore (DoRI Foundation, Florida), RJ Suri (Radio City 91.9 FM, Udaipur), and Dr Ravi Murarka (GARC North America). Several past Sewa Award recipients have gone on to receive higher state and national recognition.
